The French Grand Prix
The French Grand Prix in 1934 was won by Louis Chiron, which pleased the crowd, but the real story was the new Mercedes and Auto Union cars. They we big and powerful but plagued by small mechanical issues and mostly didn't finish but the French took note, they were more than anything Bugatti could build.
By 1935 the small issues in the German cars were worked out and the cars were dominating the circuit. By mid-season the organizers of the French Grand Prix were seriously worried that a German car and driver might win the race. Oh the horror! What to do?
So they restricted the lanes, add chicanes and made the entrance to the pits very narrow. The idea was that if they did these things, the cars would have to driver slower. Maybe this would help the Bugattis keep up with the Germans and maybe a Frenchman would win again.
It didn't work, 4 of the top 5 finishers were driving a Mercedes or and Auto Union. No Bugattis finished the race. Will history repeat itself?
Race day is Tuesday, August 21st. Pregame starts at 5:30 and we will start the race at 6:30.
French car and driver combo's earn x3 prestige, everyone else earns x2. This is Touring Club d'France's home track and they, I, will earn a prestige for starting and for finishing.
Here is a link to the track.
Good Luck!
