Last night we had 4 racers, Jerry, Eric, Donny and I racing on the Monaco Grand Prix map. This was a practice race ~ so no points were awarded, and we drove 1935 version cars but omitted the drivers. We raced 2 cars each, which sounds easy but isn't. The cars were: Jerry had a Mercedes W25 and, I think, a Bugatti. Donny had a Salmson and a Bugatti, Eric had a Mercedes W25 and an ERA and I drove a Alfa Romero T3 and a Salmson.
Eric and Donny had the first and second pole position with the ERA and the Bugatti. Notable events were:
Jerry using up all his breaks in one spectacular corner slide by the Casino,
Donny using all 20 tires and 6 brakes from his Bugatti in just 2 laps, (this car didn't finish),
my Alfa Romero took to much body damage and was knocked out by Jerry on the first lap,
Eric's ERA out performed the much more powerful Mercedes and led or regained the lead multiple times.
In the end, coming around the final corner and into the finish straight, Eric's ERA and my Salmson were neck and neck. Eric shifted into 5th and if he rolled a 16 or better he'd win. I believe 13 was his roll. I shifted up into 6th and blasted past the finish line, taking the win for the little French car. Eric's British ERA came in second and Jerry came in 3rd driving something the crowd didn't remember.
The little French and British cars beat the German Giants! This just proves that even if you have a great car you still need good rolls and good strategy.
Next practice on Thursday May 3rd. That's tomorrow. Set up and rules review at 5:30 and race at 6:30 if not before. If you plan to attend please let me know. We will break out the 1935 cars again for flavor and hopefully have another exciting race.
