Pendragon ~ the fight for Roman Britain

For last night's Tactical Tuesday, Tom and I plopped Pendrangon, GMT's 8th COIN game onto the table. I had received the game from the postman just two hours before and had watched a couple of un-helpful youtube videos which said, "If this is your first COIN game, start with another as this one is too complex and too hard." Challenge accepted!

We set up the game, ran the first scenario and after about 5 hours we had a good feel for the tactics, how each faction should play, and how each faction should advance toward their goal of winning. To say the game is deep is an understatement but to say it's difficult is an overstatement. There are many exceptions and small rule variants but nothing compared to something like Europe Engulfed, or Battle for Normandy and I found it very similar in play and feel to a combination of Sword of Rome and Here I Stand.

More rule reading is needed. More table top game time is needed. If we had four players I think the game would really shine. So more players are needed. I think I can speak for Tom that Pendragon will grace the table top next Tuesday. If you are up for challenge and you think you are more than an amateur gamer, then come try Pendragon on Tuesday May 15th.

It's time for a new campaign...
